Most women carry the pregnancy to term
Being diagnosed with cancer while pregnant may be shocking, but it is no longer a curse, especially for the child. Thanks to research, in fact, there are more and more women who are able to carry their pregnancies to term without resorting to abortion.
The experts gathered at the congress of the American Society of Clinical Oncology send a message of hope in this sense: “Doctors – says Frederic Amant, of the Leuven Gasthuisberg campus in Belgium – must be prepared to support patients and their loved ones in this difficult moment. Fortunately, management options for patients with cancer during pregnancy are expanding.”
