Milan, 13 February. (LaPresse) – More generally “pericarditis is an inflammatory disease of viral origin that can affect anyone, healthy individuals or individuals who have already had pathologies. There are different forms of pericarditis but it is a disease that can generally be cured. In any case, it is not a disease that should not be overlooked, because it can also become chronic. It’s annoying at first, but among diseases it’s one of the treatable ones,” explains Carugo. The origin “is viral, it is an infectious form. We had a lot of it during Covid and we are seeing a lot of it in this period too. Very often, unfortunately, they are unknown viruses”, remarks the doctor. The patients’ stay in hospital “depends on the person, it can range from a few days to a week or more, depending on the intensity of the inflammation. Generally, however, they are not long hospitalizations. The drugs used are certainly anti-inflammatories, but we need to understand what the cause is”, specifies the cardiologist. As for the course, “a lot also depends on the immune defenses. If a person has good immune defenses the response is strong. And knowing the ‘physique’ of the person, I hope that the response is adequate”, concludes Carugo.
