The Chilean Army’s mountain troops are currently participating in Exercise White Hell 24 alongside staff from the Spanish Army’s Mountain Troops Command. This exercise, which began on March 14 and will continue until the 25th of this month, aims to perfect and exchange experiences in a winter mountain setting.
According to the Chilean Army, Exercise White Hell also facilitates the exchange of experiences in specific techniques, tactics, and procedures to be applied in the field. The Spanish Army considers White Hell to be the most important exercise for its Mountain Troops Command, as it helps to complete their training in a mountainous area with winter weather conditions.
In this edition of the exercise, a Mountain Tactical Group composed of the Galicia Regiment 64 and the America Regiment 66 of the Spanish Army, along with support units, will face a simulated asymmetric threat in the Benasque and Bielsa valleys through offensive and defensive actions in adverse terrain.
The Chilean mountaineers team participating in Exercise White Hell 24 includes Captain Felipe Williams, 2nd Sergeant Genaro Sepúlveda, 1st Corporal Carlos Gomez, 2nd Corporal Luis Conejeros, and 2nd Corporal Christian Parada. Captain Williams highlighted the opportunity to learn from the Spanish Army, which is a reference in mountain operations.
2nd Sergeant Genaro Sepulveda from the III Mountain Division expressed his honor in representing the Army in this winter tactical exercise, emphasizing the chance to reinforce their competencies and skills as mountaineers. The exchange of experiences between the Chilean and Spanish troops is expected to enhance their knowledge and techniques in mountain operations.
