We return from the analysis clinic with the printing of the various values of our organism in a closed envelope and we cannot wait to be able to open it and discover the results, as if it were the result of a quiz or an exam (which then at the in the end they are called “blood tests” for a reason: they actually give us the results of the state of health of our organism, of how we are treating our body). One of the most frightening values, and with good reason, is cholesterol.
We say with good reason why this fat is among the main causes of cardiovascular diseases that can lead to death because cholesterol belongs to the class of “lipids” or more commonly fats which, if in excessive quantities in the blood, obstruct the veins and the arteries.
Here, however, a very important clarification and distinction must be made between the so-called good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL); so in the printout of the analyzes it is not necessary to look at the total cholesterol values but that of the LDL.
Cholesterol: what to do when it is not lowered: the expert speaks
If these values are high what should be done? Eliminate all the foods that in the collective imagination contain these fats? Well you don’t necessarily have to arrive at such a drastic solution; certainly foods of animal origin all have cholesterol and therefore must be reduced: dairy products, cheeses, red meat, butter and eggs.
These are mainly the foods most under accusation; but we repeat it must not be completely eliminated but rather reduce the quantities and associate more vegetables with the diet.
But is there anything that has a positive effect on lowering these levels? Fortunately, yes, we find allies in two important aspects: fish which, although animal, does not contain cholesterol, on the contrary, it contains the “omega 3” that go to lower it.
The second fundamental ally is to associate regular physical activity with proper nutrition, even a simple jog done regularly without necessarily becoming a Rambo.
Against cholesterol there is no better remedy as physical activity burns the “fats” of which, as we have said, cholesterol is part. So just follow these simple tips to no longer fear blood tests
