The Comptroller General of the Republic issues a warning to the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) after discovering critical deficiencies in essential equipment necessary for emergency medical care. The entity’s commission conducted an evaluation from March 11 to 15, 2024, and found significant shortages in both the Medicine field and the Resuscitation or Shock Trauma Room.
In the Medicine area, vital equipment such as a crash car, electrocardiograph, portable glucometer, and manual resuscitator for adults were found to be missing, putting patients classified as priority care II and III at risk. Similarly, the Resuscitation Room lacked 61% of the necessary medical equipment, including critical tools like a portable electrolytes and blood gas analyzer, an ICU-type electric multipurpose stretcher bed, and a transport ventilator. The presence of expired medications added another level of risk for patients in need of immediate attention.
The Comptroller General emphasized the urgency of addressing these deficiencies to ensure the quality and timeliness of emergency medical care at the INEN. The entity recommended implementing necessary corrective measures to guarantee adequate care for patients in high-risk situations. The Comptroller’s Office plays a crucial role in supervising the administration of resources in the public sector and promoting transparency, efficiency, and compliance with the law. Additionally, it actively fights against corruption and provides training and advice to improve the management of state institutions and prevent irregularities.
