Once the transaction is concluded, and the closing is expected during the year, it will become part of Google Cloud and this already says a lot of the reasons that led the Mountain View giant to write a check for 5.4 billion dollars in cash. to acquire Mandiant, an American company specializing in dynamic cyber defense solutions. The final agreement was officially announced by the two companies in the past few hours (the contract provides for the payment of $ 23 per share in an all-cash transaction including Mandiant’s net liquidity) and is, as usual, subject to the appropriate regulatory approvals.
The response to global threats
Why Google has defined this investment is easy to understand and the events that bounce off the war front in Ukraine are an obvious amplifier: the cybersecurity challenges to which organizations of any kind (including government bodies) are called, as can also be read in the blog BigG’s posts, have accelerated in frequency, severity and diversity, creating a global security imperative. “The sophistication and severity of the attacks that were previously used to target major governments – this is the indicative comment signed by Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud – are now used to target companies in every sector”. Quickly detecting and responding to attacks is therefore as imperative as having the right tools to identify, analyze and orchestrate threats and automate corrective measures. And the cloud, in this well-known but constantly evolving scenario, represents a new way to change the security paradigm and (at the same time) also accelerate the digital transformation of processes and business models.
Integration in the sign of the cloud
With the acquisition of Mandiant and the integration of its intelligence and threat testing technologies in real time (Siemplify and Automated Defense, Security Validatio), Google wants precisely to complete its offer of services addressed to the corporate world in security field that already includes solutions to combat harmful content and prevent software vulnerabilities such as BeyondCorp Enterprise for Zero Trust, VirusTotal or Security Command Center. The basic idea, as confirmed by the spokespersons of the Californian company, is a suite of end-to-end products and services with fully scalable capabilities to support companies both through their cloud environments and in on-premise mode.
