Dengue Alert in Liguria after Reports of Cases in Brazil and Argentina
Health officials in Liguria have carried out checks to prevent the risk of spreading dengue fever in the region. This comes after an alarming increase in cases in Brazil and Argentina, prompting Italian ports and airports to raise the level of alert and surveillance.
According to the Director General of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Francesco Vaia, there are no reports to the Ligurian hygiene surveillance system in ongoing inspections. However, the increase in cases in South America has prompted measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the infection to Italy.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has no specific treatment or vaccine. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, and mild bleeding. In severe cases, dengue fever can be fatal.
As a result, health authorities are urging residents to take precautions to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes, such as using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using mosquito nets.
The situation in Liguria is being closely monitored, and health officials are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the population. Further updates on the dengue fever situation in the region are expected in the coming days.
