In response to a question from the Democratic Party in the Social Affairs Commission of the Chamber, Undersecretary Gemmato emphasized the need for multidisciplinary actions against dengue. The Ministry of Health has been actively working on prevention measures for infections from viruses transmitted by vectors such as zika, chikungunya, and dengue.
Italy has been at the forefront of implementing prevention measures, with specific disinfection measures for aircraft at entry points and environmental hygiene measures in ports and airports. In 2023, 362 cases of dengue were recorded, with 82 being indigenous cases. Italy has a National Plan for prevention, surveillance, and response to Arbovirosis active from 2020-2025, promoting a multidisciplinary approach in combating arbovirus infections.
However, PD deputy Ilenia Malavasi emphasized the need for more multidisciplinary actions against dengue. She urged the Ministry to implement an awareness and information campaign and involve general practitioners in the prevention efforts. With globalization and the tropicalization of the climate, Italy risks becoming a good habitat for dengue, making it crucial to work preventively on multidisciplinary actions to prevent the disease from becoming a threat in the country.
