The European Union directive on end-of-life vehicles is one of the most important in terms of environmental impact because every year motor vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life create between 8 and 9 million tons of waste in the Old Continent.
So the experts of SaveOnEnergy.com/uk measured the total tonnage of vehicles reused and recovered to calculate – in percentage – the total production of waste. It turns out that the European country that is doing the most to reduce the disposal of end-of-life vehicles is Germany, which has exceeded the recovery and reuse rate set by the EU by an average of 7.75%. In second place is Austria, which passed the EU’s recovery and reuse rate of 4.79%. And in third place is Iceland with an increase of 4.28%. Bad Malta, which is below the average of -17.60% and Italy too bad with -6.99%.
SaveOnEnergy.com/uk obtained for the first time Eurostat statistics on the waste management operations of end of life vehicles (ELV) of each EU country. Using this data, the total tonnage of waste produced was collected together with the total tonnage reused and recovered. Then to calculate the total tonnage reused and recovered as a percentage of total waste, SaveOnEnergy.com/uk divided the sum of the total reused and the total recovered by the total waste and multiplied by 100.
