Doctor Attacked by Patient in Messina Nord Psychiatric Department – Union Calls for Increased Safety Measures

A doctor from the psychiatric diagnosis and treatment service department of Messina Nord of the ASP was the victim of a violent attack by a patient this morning. The doctor was taken to the emergency room of the Papardo hospital for treatment after being hit from behind by the patient. The attack resulted in the doctor losing two teeth and requiring stitches.

The incident has sparked outrage and concern among medical professionals and unions in the region. The general secretaries of CISL Messina, CISL Fp Messina, and CISL Medici Messina have called for increased safety measures for doctors and healthcare personnel. They have highlighted the serious shortage of healthcare staff and the risks that healthcare professionals face in their daily work.

The unions have also raised concerns about the staffing levels in other departments such as the Taormina department and the Barcelona Opg. They have pointed out that the mental health department is currently understaffed, with 54 fewer nurses than the previous staffing levels, as well as a shortage of medical personnel.

The unions are calling for immediate action to address the staffing issues and improve safety measures in healthcare facilities. They are urging the ASP manager to conduct an inspection to assess the working conditions and implement necessary changes to ensure the safety of healthcare workers.

The attack on the doctor has highlighted the need for increased security measures in healthcare facilities and the importance of supporting and protecting healthcare professionals who are dedicated to providing care to patients in need. The unions are committed to advocating for the safety and well-being of all healthcare workers and will continue to push for improvements in the healthcare system.
