Not too much sugar, not too much salt, enough fruit and vegetables – a healthy diet has many facets – and, above all, recommendations. But what is a healthy diet? And how can you integrate them into everyday family and work life? The Health Knowledge Foundation is providing an overview of World Health Day on April 7, 2024.

Many people in Germany are aware that a healthy diet is important for their health. But even experts don’t always agree on what exactly a healthy diet looks like. However, there are a few recommendations on which there is widespread agreement. What you should pay attention to and how it can be integrated into everyday life:

Healthy eating? Gladly! But what does that mean?

What is healthy depends on personal needs and living circumstances. Concrete recommendations are therefore difficult to make. However, there are a few basic rules that you should keep in mind, e.g. E.g.:

If you eat a colorful and varied diet, you will absorb the most important nutrients. Many different types of vegetables not only look beautiful, but are also healthy. Carbohydrates should – if possible – be eaten in the form of whole grain products. The following applies to fats: it is better to use vegetable rather than animal sources, i.e. it is better to use rapeseed oil than butter. Also important: pay attention to the correct calorie intake per day. Fresh foods without artificial additives should be preferred over processed foods. Eating healthy at work? Here are a few tips.

Quickly head to the snack bar around the corner during your lunch break? The general recommendations of the German Nutrition Society (DGE) also apply to everyday working life. However, there are a few additional tips for everyday work, including:

The magic word is “meal prepping”: If you cook at home, you decide for yourself what goes into it and how healthy the meal is. Important: take conscious breaks and don’t eat at the same time. You can counteract performance lows with fruit, vegetables or a handful of nuts. The same applies at work: drink enough! You can find many more tips here: “Healthy nutrition in everyday working life”.

Cooking healthy for the family? This is how it works.

Little time and everyone likes something different: family dinners can be nerve-wracking. But studies show: Eating regularly with the family is important because children are influenced by their parents. For example, children who often eat alone are more likely to be overweight. And how does eating together work? Here are a few example tips:

A good weekly plan can help you eat healthier in general. Compromises are helpful: It’s best to alternate your favorite dishes. Frozen vegetables save time: If you can grab supplies, you have less stress in everyday life. If things really have to go quickly: Many delivery services offer healthy meal kits.
