Lombardy Extends Deadline for Electronic Prescription Confirmation

A convenient service allowing 2.7 million Lombards to receive their prescriptions electronically via email or text message has been given a deadline extension by the region. Originally, citizens were asked to confirm their choice by April 30th, but now they have more time to do so with no interruptions in service expected from May 1st onwards.

The regional welfare department has reported that 50 percent of those already using the service have confirmed their choice through various channels such as the electronic health record, the Asst choice and revocation offices, or by informing their pharmacy or general practitioner.

The use of electronic prescriptions became especially popular during the Covid-19 pandemic when face-to-face interactions needed to be minimized, leading to a rapid spread of the service. In an effort to encourage more citizens to confirm their choice, the region launched a two-month awareness campaign.

Even those who have not yet used the service are encouraged to join, as the region reassures citizens that while confirmation with the renewal is necessary, there is no longer a rush to do so. However, this morning the health file portal experienced some technical difficulties due to an overload of requests.

Overall, the electronic prescription service has proven to be a valuable and convenient option for millions of Lombards, providing a seamless way to collect their prescribed medicine from pharmacies.
