The next appointment with Samsung’s Galaxy S series is very close: there are no official press releases yet, but the date to mark on the calendar is February 8, when the Korean company will hold its next Unpacked event, which again this time it will only be virtual.

In a rather curious move, the president and head of the MX Samsung Electronics division, TM Roh, unveiled some of the upcoming news with a post on the official blog. “The smartphone – he writes – opens the door to unlimited progress, something that we at Samsung have never taken for granted”. On the eve of a launch where what he calls “the most remarkable device ever launched in the S series” will be presented, Roh looks back, and in particular remembers two moments: “In 2011 Galaxy Note combined the practicality and manageability of the smartphone with the large screen and the tablet’s notepad-like functionality. Some were skeptical of a 5.3 ”screen, which was considered huge; instead Note kicked off a normality where the large display is now the standard. Even the S Pen amazed everyone, allowing people to combine creativity and productivity ”. And then: “In 2019 we dared again and went back to redefining the smartphone. We launched the Galaxy Z Fold series and introduced a completely new format to the mobile device industry. Our revolutionary foldable format has changed the use of the telephone (…). Once again the sector has raised its antennas; in fact, now several companies follow in our footsteps and place great expectations in the brochure ”.

And indeed, with Galaxy Z Flip3 and Z Fold3, Samsung is leading the industry, which for now is a small niche in the smartphone market. But obviously it is destined to grow, also given the investments of funds and energy by the big Chinese names, primarily Xiaomi and Oppo. The new Galaxy S, however, will not be a foldable: we need to update the S21, released just a year ago, and it’s time for a new traditional top of the range. Although Roh is keen to clarify: “In an ocean of smartphones that are always the same and repetitive updates, we maintain the firm ambition of capturing the signals of the transformation in turmoil, paying attention to your feedback and continuing to offer mobile experiences that allow everyone to we to make progress “.
The S Pen is back
In the post, the references to the S Pen and the Galaxy Note are precise: “We know that many were expecting the release of a new Samsung Galaxy Note last year. You’ve enjoyed the unmatched creativity and efficiency of the Galaxy Note series, where you can go from gaming fun to maximum productivity in the blink of an eye. So it seems easy to predict that even the new S22 (if it really should be called that) will be compatible with the Samsung stylus, already available today in two versions slightly different in size and functionality. But much more is to be expected, as the president of Samsung’s mobile division points out, not without emphasis: “You will master the night, taking the most beautiful and bright photos and shooting the most extraordinary videos ever obtained with a smartphone, and of the day, thanks to the power, speed and tools that no one else can offer. You will be able to take advantage of the cutting-edge innovations made possible by the smartest Galaxy experience ever, with the satisfaction of being part of a Galaxy ecosystem that has never been more sustainable ”.
Therefore the most relevant innovations, in addition to the S-Pen, should be in the photographic sector and in the processor. Two sectors in which the Korean company is the market leader: it produces sensors and photographic technologies for many other manufacturers and produces the Exynos chip itself, which, however, often uses only in some markets, while elsewhere it turns to Qualcomm.
How much will they cost
There is still little to wait: rumors have been circulating online for some time, and speak of a new family of smartphones, declined in three models with top-of-the-range features, especially in the Ultra version, equipped with a 6.8-inch display. Prices have already circulated, soon taken up by bloggers and specialized sites. we report them here, obviously bearing in mind that these are only indiscretions:
If these prices were also confirmed for Italy, Samsung’s new smartphone family would therefore be aligned with last year’s price lists, indeed even slightly cheaper: 30 euros less for the basic model (which cost 879 euros), 110 euro less for the top (which reached 1559 euro).
