The Generalitat of the Valencian Community is set to increase mental health care services with the tendering of new day hospitals for adult and child patients. Bartolome Perez, responsible for the Autonomous Office of Mental Health and Addictions, announced the plan after a meeting with key government officials. The initiative aims to bring the region on par with others in terms of mental health care management and provide better continuity of care for patients.
In addition to the day hospitals, the Generalitat plans to expand hospitalization places for child and adolescent patients, with new units set to open in Elche, San Juan, Alcoy, Valencia-Doctor Pesty, and Gandia. A comprehensive plan for Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) care is also in the works, with input from experts in child psychiatry.
Furthermore, the government is focusing on suicide prevention and early detection of mental health issues, with plans to implement Early Detection Units in school environments. These units will play a crucial role in identifying mental health problems among students and providing necessary intervention. Additionally, a pilot project addressing homelessness and dual pathology cases is set to begin in Valencia.
Teacher training in mental health, investment in social wellbeing programs, and prevention of addictions are also key components of the government’s plan. With an investment of 9 million euros, the Generalitat is committed to promoting mental health and wellbeing in the community.
