Fire Breaks Out in Secondary School in Francavilla Fontana, Prompt Evacuation Ensures Safety
A small fire broke out this morning in an electrical cabinet located in the lecture hall of the lower secondary school “Publius Virgilius Marone” in Francavilla Fontana. Thanks to the quick response and evacuation procedures that were immediately implemented, what could have been a scary situation was averted.
Due to the fire, lessons were suspended for the day as a precautionary measure since the electricity had to be disconnected. Luckily, there were students in the sports facility along with the physical education teacher when the fire started. They noticed the smoke and initiated the evacuation procedures promptly.
The teacher, who was well-trained in handling such incidents along with the rest of the school staff, grabbed a fire extinguisher and began extinguishing the flames. The firefighters, whose station is located near the school, arrived shortly after to complete the operation. Furthermore, the teacher in charge of the prevention and protection service (RSPP) and the vice-principal activated the emergency protocol.
The students at the school have been well-prepared for such situations through regular fire drills and safety exercises. When faced with a real emergency, they were able to evacuate the building in an orderly and efficient manner in just two minutes.
Thanks to the quick actions of the staff and students, everyone was able to evacuate the building safely. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared and how proper training can make all the difference in emergency situations.
