In several EU countries such as the Czech Republic, trans people still have to undergo sterilization before they can change their gender. A person affected explains what that means.
The problems, says Alexandra Tomanová, started three days after the operation. Of course, some pain is normal when having your testicles removed. But these? “Like the strongest kick between the legs you can imagine. And that lasts for hours,” says the 23-year-old. At the same time, despite all the pain, she felt relief. “Now it’s done, my legal transition is over. An incredible feeling.”
