Viterbo – The Local Health Authority in Viterbo has requested reimbursement from 16 family doctors for “unduly prescribed” medicines, including proton pump inhibitors, respiratory drugs for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and cholecalciferol. These medications were found to exceed the prescription limits established by the Lazio Region for the year 2022.
According to the ASL of Viterbo, the Inter-district Prescriptive Appropriateness Commission identified that the prescribing activity of these 16 doctors exceeded the permitted limits for pharmaceutical spending. As a result, the doctors have been asked to reimburse the costs of the drugs that were prescribed beyond the established limits.
The total amount that the targeted doctors will have to pay is nearly 38 thousand euros, with individual amounts ranging from 524.02 euros to 4,787.26 euros. The doctors were sent a request for reimbursement via certified email, asking them to communicate the methods by which the sum will be paid.
The reimbursement request serves as a reminder to healthcare providers to adhere to the prescription limits set by regional authorities. Failure to comply with these limits can result in the recovery of the costs for the prescribed drugs.
