Berlin: (hib/PK) The Union parliamentary group deals with the medical treatment of very overweight people in a small question (20/9995). Obesity is a chronic, progressive disease that represents an enormous challenge for patients, doctors and the healthcare system due to the large number of secondary and accompanying diseases, the inquiry states.
As a rule, one speaks of obesity with a body mass index (BMI) over 30 and extreme obesity with a BMI of over 40. The disease leads to increased blood pressure values, insulin resistance, lipid metabolism disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system in children and adolescents .
The MPs want to know what initiatives the federal government has taken to close what they see as the existing gaps in obesity treatment in accordance with the mandate formulated in the National Diabetes Strategy.
