Whether macaws, gibbons, tapirs or zebras: the Gettorf zoo between Kiel and Eckernförde shows around 120 different animal species. In the tropical halls it is summer all year round. The feedings are popular.

The four-hectare zoo is a popular destination for families. It offers a home to a total of 800 animals. One focus is on keeping monkeys, such as chimpanzees or crested macaques, as well as on breeding tropical hornbills and parrots. The birds live in two lushly planted tropical halls, while various primates frolic in the African and South American enclosures. Another enclosure is the Australia enclosure with its kangaroos.

The meerkats that live in a group at the Paradise Hall are popular with visitors.

The petting zoo with its dwarf goats and Cameroon sheep is particularly popular with children, as is the enclosure for tapirs and capybaras. A forest nature trail leads from the playground across the area and provides information on boards about the habitat of woodpiles or the development of frogs. The Friends of Gettorf Zoo supports educational offerings and enables animal encounters for kindergartens and school classes.

Participatory feedings

During the summer months, visitors can feed the tapirs in their enclosure.

Gettorf Zoo offers various animal feeding options. One attraction is the hands-on feeding of the lemurs and tapirs, where visitors can enter the enclosure and feed the animals directly from their hands. There are also regular feeding shows for monkeys, skunks and meerkats in the summer.
