Farewell to Aldina Venerosi Pesciolini, ISS researcher who died prematurely on 12 January. The last volume of the series The historical-scientific assets of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità entitled Filomena Nitti, a scientist of the twentieth century was dedicated to her. Aldina Venerosi carried out her research work precisely in the wake of that activity that integrates the study of behavior with neuroscience that Daniel Bovet and Filomena Nitti had initiated at the ISS, but furthermore Aldina Venerosi Pesciolini had in common with Filomena Nitti the passion for the fight against inequalities and, like her, she looked at research as a tool to reduce social inequalities.
Aldina Venerosi Pesciolini, among other things, had worked on autism and through the experience gained in the sector of teratology and behavioral toxicology she had dedicated herself to research on the role of environmental risk factors in the pathogenesis of human neurodevelopmental disorders.
And it is precisely the ethical and supportive vision that has marked Aldina’s scientific path. Her closest colleagues remember her as “a tireless builder of human bonds, an extraordinary colleague in work and life”. But it is also for her vocation for inclusion that Aldina is remembered as “a woman who never stopped working at the service of the most vulnerable people and who dedicated many years to building networks for the protection of health and social and working inclusion of people with mental disabilities”. A memory that reaches up to recent times: “even during her long illness, with generosity and enthusiasm she always did her utmost to ensure that equality and solidarity were always put into practice in every idea and in every action that animated her activity “.
