The Geodetic gym of Miramare, named after Gianluca ‘Lomba’ Lombardini, was inaugurated on Friday afternoon (June 10), with a heartfelt moment of commemoration, together with a participatory sporting event. With the uncovering of a painting that portrays him and a plaque with the inscription “Palestra Gianluca Lombardini (1959-2020) – Master of sport”, the path, already started in August 2021, of naming the gym ended yesterday afternoon. After an initial greeting and the memory of “Lomba” by the commissioner Maresi, a healthy sporting competition took place, to which various associations joined. In addition to the Miramare Basket, in fact, the ibr, the Santarcangelo basket and the Stella were also present. The inaugural event was also attended by the former councilor for sport Donatella Turci and many young people from Lomba, of all ages, from the smallest to the oldest, who also played among the professionals, such as the captains of Basketball Rimini Alberto Saponi and Federico Tassinari. There were also many residents of the neighborhood and the people who knew the Miramare basketball master.
We recall that Gianluca Lombardini was the soul of Miramare Basket and protagonist of the Rimini basketball movement, and not only of the Geodetic gym of the sports center in via Parigi. For this reason, the municipal council started in August 2021 the process to obtain from the Prefecture the authorization to proceed with the naming of the Miramare structure, a proposal that found the consent of the many people who knew him and esteemed him as man and as a sportsman. In fact, Gianluca Lombardini (employee of the Municipality of Rimini) – who passed away on October 15, 2020 at the age of 61 – was well known in the sector of the wedge ball, promoter of a strong youth movement, also becoming a point of reference for the families of the territory.
