How OJ Simpson died: he was 76 years old
To announce the passing offormer American football champion it was the family, on Twitter. Simpson was 76 years old. Rumors about his prostate cancer diagnosis have been circulating since the beginning of the year. There was also talk of one of his admission to a hospice for chemotherapy. But he himself had denied the news of the hospitalization (without ever mentioning the tumor) with a laugh in un video.

This is the family’s announcement: «On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpsonhe lost his battle against cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. In this moment of transition, we ask that you respect his wishes for privacy and discretion.”

Born in 1947, Simpson has had a life of ups and downs. His childhood was also “cinematic”. His father was one of the first drag queens. After his parents’ divorce he entered into one baby gangalso ending up in reformatory.
Sport took him away from the streets, saving him: he was one of the greatest American football champions. He played with the Buffalo Bills, it was the miglior running back del 1972 and has a kilometer record traveled in one season. He was nicknamed The Juice and played 11 seasons in the National Football League.

The films: not just ‘The Naked Gun’
His sporting career then gave way to that of an actor. Everyone remembers his portrayal of Agent Nordberg in the trilogy A blunt bullet.
But Simpson also played dramatic roles in the serialized drama Roots. E in The Crystal Hell, Cassandra Crossing and Capricorn One.
June 12, 1994: the double murder
In 1994, on June 12, the body of Nicole Brown, OJ Simpson’s (white) ex-wife, was found lifeless in front of the apartment building in Brentwood, the richest neighborhood in Los Angeles. Next to the woman’s body lay the body of Ron Lyle Goldman, a 25-year-old waiter who had gone to the woman’s house to bring back a pair of sunglasses he had forgotten at the restaurant. Both had been stabbed to death.

The chase on live TV and the connection with the Kardashians
Suspicion immediately fell on Simpson, also because a series of evidence suggested his guilt (he had beaten his wife). Five days after the crime, Simpson was the protagonist of a movie escape in a Ford Bronco white driven by a former teammate. The police went to the house oflawyer Robert Kardashian (father of Kim and her sisters) to arrest the former champion, but did not find him.
He then intercepted his car. From there he started a chase along the highway Interstate 405 in Los Angelestaken from one twenty helicopters and transmitted live from many TV channels. With scenes of racial “cheering”…
The police caught up with Simpson in the evening. His he remained in the car for about an hour, threatening to kill himself. Finally, after about an hour, he gave up. In addition to the gun, officers confiscated a fake mustache and goatee. Plus a family photo that he had kept with him during the chase.
The double trial: the OJ Simpson case
The double trial was equally followed by the media and public opinion. Found not guilty of the murders in 1995, he was however found guilty in the civil case. The families of the victims managed to bring him back to court in 1997. All this “deserved” a season of America Crime Story by Ryan Murphy (The People v. O. J. Simpson2016).
OJ Simpson later had more trouble with the law. In 2008 he committed a theft and was sentenced to 33 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping. He was released after nine years, in 2017, on probation.
