World Hypertension Day 2024: Free Health Initiative in Cremona to Promote Blood Pressure Awareness

Cremona, Italy – The slogan for World Hypertension Day 2024 is “Measure and control your blood pressure accurately, live longer”, highlighting the importance of monitoring blood pressure for a healthier life. In line with this, an important free health initiative will be taking place in Cremona on Wednesday, May 17 from 9am to 2pm at the gardens of Piazza Roma.

Participants of the event will have the opportunity to undergo a short medical interview to assess their cardiovascular and nephrological risk. Healthcare professionals will be present to measure blood pressure, educate on proper monitoring techniques at home, and check the calibration of home monitoring devices.

Attendees can also inquire about risk factors associated with high blood pressure, such as family history, sedentary lifestyle, and excessive salt consumption. Information on potential consequences of hypertension and preventive measures will be provided to empower individuals to take charge of their health and seek medical assistance when necessary.

The event, organized by the Hypertension Center of the Asst of Cremona, is directed by Giusy Chiarelli from the Nephrology and Dialysis Unit. It is supported by healthcare professionals, volunteer associations, and educational institutions, with sponsorship from the Municipality of Cremona.

Arterial hypertension, characterized by high blood pressure on artery walls, poses a significant risk for cardiovascular and renal diseases. Despite being asymptomatic in many cases, hypertension affects a significant portion of the Italian population, with 31% classified as hypertensive and 17% as borderline.

Preventive measures play a crucial role in addressing the silent threat of hypertension, with early detection and intervention essential in managing the condition. The Hypertension Center at Cremona Hospital provides specialized care for individuals with hypertension, guiding them towards lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, or medication as needed.

As part of the ongoing efforts to promote blood pressure awareness and preventive healthcare, initiatives like the one in Cremona aim to educate the public on the importance of monitoring blood pressure and seeking appropriate medical attention. By raising awareness and offering access to healthcare resources, the community can work towards a healthier future for all.
