Everyone happens to look in the mirror and notice that there is something abnormal in their image. It may happen, for example, that you notice dark spots on the face. Obviously, there is no need to be alarmed, but rather to investigate what could be causing them. The best thing to do is, of course, to contact your doctor and identify its origin.
It may, however, be helpful to know that the problem may stem from a problem that is more common in the summer. According to expert advice, if you have dark spots on your face, there is a possibility that it is melasma.
Dark spots on the skin, that’s what they are due to
On the pages of Humanitas it is defined as a problem of an “aesthetic” nature. At the base of the manifestation there would be an excessive production of melanin. The problem concerns women almost exclusively. The spots occur on the upper lip, cheeks, nose and forehead.
According to what experts have indicated, the origin of this phenomenon could depend on hormonal activity. In fact, it should be noted that the question also concerns pregnant women, so much so that it also has the definition of “pregnancy mask”. There may, however, be other causes.
The possible presence of dark spots on the skin of the face could reveal itself following phases of life characterized by strong stress. Other possible origins of the problem would be to be found in the use of scented creams, in the possible intake of photo-sensitizing drugs or the anti-conception pill. Another factor not to be overlooked is the possibility that there is a genetic predisposition.
If you have dark spots on your face, this could be one of the causes
However, it is necessary to explain why melasma occurs mainly in summer. The reason why dark spots are seen especially during the summer is closely related to the action of the sun’s rays.
The spots could depend, in fact, on a greater production of melanin, which is the substance to which the tan is due and which acts as a shield from ultraviolet rays.
You don’t need to avoid the sun to prevent the problem. Instead, you need to protect yourself. Experts recommend the use of sunscreens that guarantee high levels of protection (50 or greater) and “not be – according to the Humanitas website – scented”. The other indication is to avoid exposure to sunlight during the hottest hours. If, on the other hand, it is not possible to use this temporal measure, we must remember the sunscreen, but also to use sunglasses and hats.
All advice is valid especially when it’s time to go to the beach. An area in which, for example, you need to have different precautions. Among these there is also that of avoiding thermal shock when bathing.
