In August I will leave for Bali: which vaccinations?

Dear Reader,

The appropriate time to present yourself at a travel medicine center is certainly 15 or 30 days before departure in order to have time to carry out any vaccinations. Indonesia is not a country where there are extreme risks, but there are some recommended vaccinations such as against hepatitis A, typhoid fever, rabies, Japanese encephalitis. The key role of travel medicine clinics is not only to be the place where vaccines are performed, but a place to receive specific advice based on the type of trip and the patient. The doctor will carefully evaluate your age, duration of the trip, financial availability, previous and future trips, to best advise which vaccinations to perform, which medications to take or which behaviors to adopt during your stay abroad. For example, if a person goes to Bali for a few days, it is not necessary for them to receive the two doses of rabies vaccination (a disease with a mortality rate of 99.9%), but they will have to be extremely careful not to be bitten by dogs or bats and, if this happens, you should immediately go to a medical center to receive immunoglobulins and undergo post-exposure vaccination. Another matter if a person will stay for longer periods of time, also traveling to other states at risk for rabies: in this case, a pre-exposure vaccination will be strongly recommended.
