In Bologna the first fitness course in Italy for trans (and not only)

«Are you a trans person and would you like to do fitness in a space free from gender stereotypes, from a judgmental look on the body and from the logic of performance? Here is the first fitness course where you will find other transgender, queer and non-binary people ready to welcome you to practice physical activity together, celebrating the diversity and plurality of bodies and identities in harmony with body positivity “. Bologna leader of Italy. With a gym “for everyone”, complete with alias membership and genderless locker room, in the name of the right to sport, the inclusion of all colors and physical and psychological well-being. Promoted by QueerFit, a pilot project by Gruppo Trans, Uisp and the Urban Innovation Foundation in Cyrenaica.

Gymnastics and freedom

The first fitness course in Italy organized by transgender people for transgender people was born right here in Bologna. A free course lasting one hour per week away from judgments and prejudices. The lessons, as stated in the brochures, are held by “community personal trainers who incorporate fundamentals of functional toning and aerobic gymnastics with exercises to be carried out on the floor with the mat, for legs, buttocks and abdominals”. And again: “The course also aims to counteract the social marginalization of trans people – explain the promoters – through sport by creating inclusive environments for all identities, bodies and genders that disregard social expectations, challenging canons and prejudices of society to celebrate its diversity and uniqueness “. The first lesson was held on February 5: groups of twenty users (green pass mandatory) with strictly genderless changing rooms and alias membership

The organizers

At the forefront, in fact, the Queerfit association which “has its roots in bodypositivity, to invite you to accept, value and love your own body, but also that of others, seeing in sports practice a means to educate to respect for mutual differences “. The manifest message is equally clear: “We want to fight the stigma by putting our lives back at the center and expanding our narratives. We want to exist in the world of sport and deconstruct the imaginary that still sees us relegated to the margins of society. We designed this course to encourage people to embrace their trans visibility by creating new networks of relationships and developing a sense of belonging to the community, with a view to empowerment “. The next lesson is next Saturday.
