Verona, Italy – The Italian League for the fight against tumors (Lilt) has launched an awareness campaign urging citizens to become influencers of their own health by prioritizing prevention. The campaign is part of the “National week for cancer prevention”, taking place from 16 to 24 March across Italy.
In Verona, a special information point will be set up in Piazza Bra on Saturday 23 March from 9 am to 6 pm. Volunteer doctors from Lilt, a nutritional biologist, and specialists from the Department of Medical Oncology of the integrated university hospital will be on hand to provide information and guidance to citizens.
The focus of the campaign is on promoting healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about risk factors for cancer such as smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol abuse, and exposure to UV rays. The campaign also emphasizes the importance of participating in screening programs and vaccinations against infections known to cause cancer.
Annalisa Molino, municipal councilor delegate for the Italian Healthy Cities Network WHO and oncologist, emphasizes the role of individual responsibility in making daily choices that can prevent cancer. Out of a thousand cancer diagnoses a day in Italy, 300 could be avoided by adopting healthy behaviors and making informed decisions about one’s health.
The campaign, supported by Lilt, aims to educate the public about the importance of prevention and early detection in reducing the incidence of cancer. Italian extra virgin olive oil is once again the symbol of the campaign, and bottles of quality Evo oil will be available for purchase at the event thanks to collaboration with Unaprol – Consorzio Olivicolo Italiano.
The event was presented by Annalisa Molino, Sante Burati (president Lilt Verona), Francesco Fiorica (director of the Department of Medical Oncology Ulss 9), and Antonio Paiola (Alpini team leader). The campaign seeks to empower individuals to take charge of their health and make informed choices to prevent cancer and improve overall well-being.
