Air force planes for Gaza aid have landed in Jordan

Berlin (epd). Two Bundeswehr transport planes used to drop relief supplies over the Gaza Strip have landed in Jordan. The machines are to be loaded with aid supplies from the United Nations World Food Program. The plan is to drop food and medicine, said a Foreign Ministry spokesman in Berlin on Friday.

The Federal Ministry of Defense was unable to give an exact timetable for when the first relief supplies would be dropped from Bundeswehr planes over the Gaza Strip. The crews are currently familiarizing themselves with the conditions on site and coordinating the next steps together with international partners, said a ministry spokesman. A total of 20 soldiers were transferred to Jordan.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) announced on Wednesday that Germany would take part in the humanitarian airlift for the Gaza Strip. Since last November there have been isolated aid deliveries that have been dropped by parachute by the Jordanian Air Force. Since the beginning of March this year, other countries have also been using this option, such as the USA and France.
