Municipal: there will be no voting in San Luca, no candidate for mayor – News

There will be no voting on 8 and 9 June in San Luca for the election of the new mayor and the city council. In fact, no candidacy for mayor has been presented and the Municipality, consequently, will be placed under a commissioner.

The outgoing mayor, Bruno Bartolo, in office since 2019, has decided not to resubmit his candidacy. Bartolo, who was elected after a period of commissionership of the Municipality due to the failure to hold elections due to the lack of candidates for mayor, will explain the reasons for his decision on May 21st during a meeting with citizens. According to what has been learned, however, there was no pressure or conditioning on Bartolo so that he would not run again. The outgoing mayor’s disengagement, therefore, would have been determined exclusively by political motivations.

In San Luca, a municipality of just under 3,500 inhabitants, there has always been a strong presence of the ‘ndrangheta. In the past the center of Reggino was considered one of the vertices of the so-called “kidnapping triangle”, together with Platì and “Natile” of Careri.
