In the electronic brain of Formula E: “It’s unique, blackout proof”

Twenty kilometers between cables and optical fiber, a television system that is entirely built and dismantled in record time, within a week, whenever the Formula E circus moves from one race to another around the world. It is the broadcast center of this particular motorsport, the electronic brain that collects data, times and telemetry from the cars and distributes them between the teams and the television direction. To explain and show it is Eric Ernst, Technology Director of Formula E. “The whole system consumes a lot of electricity and the most important thing is that the supply is stable,” he explains. “For this we use a very special UPS which, given its size, can be moved without using heavy vehicles”, adds Ernst. At the end of the race, the system is disassembled and loaded on board the trucks that will take it to the next country on the calendar. “After Rome, he will come with us to Munich, then to Berlin and then to Jakarta – concludes the Director -. We have been using it for about two years and he has already traveled the world with us several times solving many problems”.
