International Pediatric Surgery Refresher Course Held in Paraguay
For three days, the “Niños de Acosta Ñu” pediatric hospital hosted an international medical refresher course on colorectal anomalies. Organized by the Paraguayan Society of Pediatric Surgery (SOPACIPE), the event saw participation from pediatric surgeons from Paraguay and Argentina.
One of the key speakers at the event was Dr. Marcela Bailez, a renowned pediatric surgeon from Buenos Aires. Dr. Bailez, who heads the pediatric surgery service at the Güemes Sanatorium, shared her expertise on topics ranging from anorectal malformations to surgical techniques for treating Hirschsprung’s disease.
The course included in-person talks, screenings of complex surgeries, and hands-on training sessions. Four complex surgeries were performed during the event, all of which were successful. These surgeries provided valuable learning opportunities for the participants, who were able to observe and learn from the procedures.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Health and SOPACIPE highlights the importance of continuous training for pediatric surgeons and surgical residents. These courses not only enhance the skills and knowledge of medical professionals but also contribute to improving the quality of care for pediatric patients in Paraguay.
