According to Marco Silano, director of the Department of Cardiovascular, Endocrine-Metabolic, and Aging Diseases at the Higher Institute of Health, intermittent fasting should not be seen as a weight control method but as a way to combat overeating in modern Western societies. It can help mitigate the damage caused by an incorrect diet by resetting the metabolism and reducing insulin production.

However, Silano warns that intermittent fasting should not be practiced without consulting a doctor, as it may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with underlying health conditions like heart or kidney issues. While there are some short-term studies on the benefits of fasting, the long-term effects are still unknown.

Instead of diving into complex fasting schedules, Silano suggests a simpler approach of eating less and moving more to combat overeating and the consumption of excessive calories, refined sugars, and processed foods. This more sustainable approach may be a better alternative to drastic fasting methods.

Among the notable figures who practice intermittent fasting are Matteo Renzi, Elon Musk, Kurtney Kardashian, Hugh Jackman, Bruce Springsteen, and Briatore, along with immunologist Antonella Viola. As this trend continues to gain traction in the celebrity world, it remains to be seen how sustainable and beneficial it will be in the long run.
