by admin

L’AQUILA – After the last discharge carried out yesterday, the Covid Medicine department of the Aquila hospital headed by Professor closes today Davide Grassi: since last October, when the emergency broke out in the province of L’Aquila with a dramatic surge in infections, more than 600 hospitalizations have been carried out in the structure.

In Covid Medicine, where up to a maximum of 48 beds have been activated, 10 doctors and about thirty nurses and oss ”loaned” by other departments have worked: now the spaces, in the so-called Delta 7 returned last year after the intervention to repair the damage of the 2009 earthquake, will be sanitized to reopen the traditional medicine ward. As Professor Grassi points out, “in the hope that there will not be a new wave, we are ready to reopen the department if there is a need”.

“I thank the team – continues the doctor – with whom I have worked in these very difficult months. They are exceptional people who have formed a winning team capable of facing difficult difficulties. The extraordinary human and professional heritage has allowed us to give a prompt response in dramatic conditions. Professionalism, humanity and availability as an individual has enabled us to do what we have done. Now that we breathe and look back, I realize that it was a terrible experience, at times dramatic, which we have, however, overcome thanks to the sacrifice and contribution of everyone. From the beginning we have been a cohesive and concentrated team ”.

Below is the letter from Professor Grassi to the healthcare staff:

I have learned to know each of you and in each of you I would be able to see many details of beauty. I got to know extraordinary people and to share with them unrepeatable moments of suffering, difficulty and humanity. For each of you I would be able to recognize nuances and looks. Each of you has been part of a large group and all of you have been fundamental for the success of something that was even unthinkable at first.

I learned to look at the world with other eyes thanks to you too. After all, Covid has imposed on us exactly this. Try to look at the world from other perspectives. And among the beautiful things there are all of you. Each with its own characteristics, each with their own professionalism, each with their own human baggage of joy and pain. Today we celebrate the end of this experience with notes of melancholy. I am sure that you will be able to take everywhere the light and beautiful notes of what has been done all together.

It will not be difficult to recognize each other at any time we will have the opportunity to meet again. I can only thank each of you and all of you for how beautifully built. Building is something extremely difficult and we have succeeded. I send you a huge hug.
