One pregnancy, two men and her: Liliana Resinovich, a retired employee of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, who disappeared from her home in Trieste on 14 December 2021 and was found lifeless on 5 January in a nearby grove. It happens that in an environmental interception of March 5, 2022 one of the two, Sebastiano Visintin who is Liliana’s husband, tells a friend about a delicate event that happened over 30 years ago. He reveals to him that around 1990-1991 Liliana had become pregnant by Claudio Sterpin, a former marathon runner with whom she had had a relationship. Visintin tells him that he himself would accompany her to the hospital to voluntarily terminate her pregnancy.
The fact itself would be irrelevant if Sterpin were not also the second man in this mess. That is, Liliana’s lover, the one who came out into the open after the dramatic discovery in this way: «Lilli and I had started seeing each other again for some time, we are linked by a deep friendship. She wanted to separate from Sebastiano and she wanted to tell him so. With Lilli we had planned a weekend together, precisely the one on December 17th, that is, three days before her disappearance…. Am I a lover? With three prostate surgeries, what kind of lover would I be?
In short, Sterpin has never made a secret of his strong suspicion that Sebastiano has some responsibility for Liliana’s end. Despite it all. That is, despite the conclusions of the Trieste prosecutor’s office that she had requested the dismissal of the suicide case, even though she was then forced to reopen it at the request of the investigating judge for new investigations. And Visintin has always shown a certain annoyance for the other, lining up a series of even somewhat contradictory statements about him: “I didn’t know that my wife was seeing a man…”. «I knew that she went to do his housework…». «We got along well…». He said he was unaware of that story and outraged by Sterpin’s revelations. So how can we read the news of the pregnancy, confirmed by the documents acquired by the Prosecutor’s Office?
The interpretation is by Gabriella Marano, the consultant of the Resinovich family who opposed the dismissal: «Let’s say that in light of what emerges from the documents and what Visintin himself declared publicly, namely that he knew that his wife was going to iron the shirts from Claudio, the husband could not help but suspect that Lilli was dating Claudio”. That is, given the precedent of the pregnancy, her surprise at Lilli’s relationship with Sterpin would seem unjustified and this would support the hypothesis that she is not telling it correctly. «Visintin also says that he still has photos of Sterpin with Liliana and that these are found in the seized hard drives», adds Marano.
But it must be said that these elements (the act of pregnancy, the wiretap, the photos and the statements) had already been evaluated by the Trieste Prosecutor’s Office: no criminal relevance. «It has nothing to do with the crimes – the chief prosecutor Antonio De Nicolo cut short yesterday -. This is gossip, I’m not interested in either confirming or denying. It is beyond what I believe is our duty.” Liliana’s brother, Sergio, confirmed the relationship between Claudio and his sister: «They have always had a special relationship which, with ups and downs, has dragged on over the years; this can now be considered a certain fact, even if her husband Sebastiano continues to awkwardly deny it. I also learned about the pregnancy from the documents, in our house these topics were taboo. However, I don’t know who the creator is. However, I reiterate that Lilli had no reason to commit suicide.”
