“Dr. Ana Carolina Sepúlveda Vildósola appointed as new director of UNAM’s Faculty of Medicine”
The Governing Board of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has appointed Dr. Ana Carolina Sepúlveda Vildósola as the new director of the Faculty of Medicine for the period 2024-2028. This makes her the first woman to head the institution.
The news was met with celebration and recognition, with the Faculty of Medicine’s website featuring a message that read, “A goya for Dr. Sepúlveda” in honor of her historic appointment.
Dr. Sepúlveda Vildósola was chosen from a shortlist of candidates, which included Andrés Eliu Castell Rodríguez and Teresita Corona Vázquez. Her appointment is seen as a significant step forward in promoting gender diversity and representation in leadership roles within the university.
In addition to the appointment of the new director of the Faculty of Medicine, the Governing Board is also tasked with appointing the directors of the Faculty of Accounting and Administration (FCA), the Institute of Geography, and the Institute of Philological Research for the period 2024-2028.
Dr. Sepúlveda Vildósola’s appointment is expected to bring new perspectives and initiatives to the Faculty of Medicine, and it is hoped that her leadership will inspire and empower future generations of students and professionals in the field of medicine.
