Earthquake in the province of Naples

Two occurred during the night and at dawn earthquakes in the province of Naples. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Invg) reports that the latest tremor, of magnitude 3.1occurred at 5:55:50 am in the Vesuvius area.

The INGV-OV Operations Room in Naples verified the shock data: the geographical coordinates (lat, lon) are 40.8240, 14.4300, while the depth of the shock is 0 km.

The shock, however slight, adds to the recent movements of the Campi Flegrei and the trail that constantly runs through Italy. The most recent occurred on April 26th Sicilywith a magnitude of 3.0 and epicenter off the coast of the province of Trapani.

In the vicinity of the earthquake in Campania, as reported by the INGV, there are the cities (with at least 50 thousand inhabitants) of:

Concern for the Campi Flegrei

I Phlegraean Fields they are an “active” volcanic area in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, north-west of the city of Naples. The phenomenon that affects the area is described bradyismor the volcanic breath, which causes the ground to rise and fall. It is therefore a very active area and where tremors are not uncommon.

Quite intense episodes have been occurring recently, with magnitudes of 3.5 or higher. It’s about the most energetic seismic sequences of the last 40 yearsfrom the crisis of ’82-’84.
