The Ministry of Education Rejects UBU’s Request for Discussion on Medical Studies in Burgos

The Ministry of Education has declined the request made by the University of Burgos (UBU) to participate in a working table focused on addressing the cost and the implementation of medical studies in Burgos. Last fall, UBU’s rector, Manuel Pérez Mateos, urged the ministry to establish a technical commission where both institutions could present their positions on the creation of a new faculty, particularly in regard to the necessary investment for the project’s successful completion.

When questioned about the possibility of joining the table, the Ministry simply stated that “decisions are made in the Academic Commission of the Council of Universities.” However, it also noted that there is ongoing dialogue between Education and all universities on matters affecting the academic field.

The decision to leave the future of Medicine in Burgos in the hands of the Council of Universities has raised concerns, as the effectiveness of this entity in the matter has been called into question. Notably, in the last Academic Commission meeting, only the rector of the University of Salamanca opposed the implementation of Medicine in Burgos and has not revisited the issue since. Pérez Mateos has stated that the next meeting of the Council is scheduled for spring, with no indication of the topic being on the agenda.
