The Ministry of Health is taking proactive measures to strengthen surveillance against Dengue fever, particularly in light of the upcoming season of greatest circulation of the tiger mosquito. A new circular has been issued, instructing Regions to prepare local measures for monitoring and combating vectors, and to identify potential sites at risk of introducing new invasive mosquito species.
The circular, signed by the director of prevention Francesco Vaia, emphasizes the importance of timely surveillance of human cases of Dengue throughout the country. Healthcare workers, including pediatricians and general practitioners, are urged to be vigilant in identifying and reporting cases promptly.
In addition to surveillance, the Ministry is calling for environmental remediation actions to reduce mosquito breeding sites. This includes removing potential larval outbreaks, cleaning and maintaining immovable objects, and mowing uncultivated vegetation.
The Ministry also stresses the importance of training healthcare personnel, cleaning operators, and citizens on Dengue and other arboviruses. Correct communication and awareness-raising activities are recommended to increase vigilance in the public sector and among health workers.
Furthermore, the circular highlights the need for regular checks on blood donations to prevent the transmission of Dengue and other arboviruses through transfusions.
