A Molotov cocktail against a gym in Monteverde. This was what created social alarm in the neighborhood last March. After just over two months it was the police who gave a name and a face to the man who threw the incendiary device against the premises of Viale dei Quattro Venti, with the same then arrested as a serious suspect of detaining deadly devices and explosive devices, in particular a Molotov cocktail that he carried and used in a public place by throwing it at the premises of a gym.
The agents of the state police of the XII Monteverde district, following thorough and timely investigations coordinated by the public prosecutor of Rome, proceeded to execute a precautionary custody order under house arrest against a 48-year-old Roman. In the early hours of last March 16, the agents in charge of territorial control in the area of competence intervened in Viale dei Quattro Venti to report an explosion that had occurred near an access gate to a well-known commercial activity. On reaching the scene, they ascertained that a rudimentary “Molotov cocktail” bomb had been exploded.
Investigations began immediately. The agents acquired the images of the surveillance cameras on the street which made it possible to ascertain the presence of a man who, after having made an initial inspection near the premises, moved away from there, only to return after a few minutes. throwing an incendiary device at the entrance and then running away.
Subsequent investigations and testimonies of the employees of the activity made it possible to identify the man and to ascertain that the same, previously, had damaged the advertising banners of the activity and had had aggressive and threatening attitudes towards the employees of another business located in the same area.
The elements collected led the agents to carry out a home search during which they found the clothing presumably worn by the offender on the day of the event and objects useful for the “domestic” manufacture of the bomb.
On the basis of the investigative findings, the local public prosecutor’s office requested the judicial authority to evaluate the issue of a precautionary measure. Request accepted by the judge for preliminary investigations who issued a precautionary custody order of house arrest against the man.
