Nurses, there is little to celebrate

15 maggio

Dear Director,
more than 100,000 nurses will retire in the coming years, cases of burnout among healthcare personnel to whom the pandemic has contributed to highlighting the disaster of healthcare in Italy is increasing, which is heading towards privatization and towards differentiated autonomy which in Healthcare will accentuate the differences between Regions and penalize the poorest Regions, forcing people to increase healthcare emigration.

The nurse who for years has been told in words that she is one of the pillars of assistance, but in fact finds herself crushed between the increase in corporatisation with an increase in workloads that are not adequately paid, with unions and fugitive professional orders, with a right-wing government that does not put 1 euro into the renewal of contracts.

No policy to contrast the abandonment of the nursing profession, the reduction of university expenses for undergraduates, the increase in nursing staff who abandon Italian hospitals to go abroad where the salary is double that in Italy.

Reduction of hours, increase in wages, safety at work, improve working conditions in emergency rooms, drastically reduce the number of freelancers, reduction of waiting lists. In short, more public retrained and less private healthcare.

The recent decision of the government to liberalize the nursing profession, allowing to carry out professional activities outside one’s own structure, is absolutely wrong.

Let’s pay nurses more! So nothing to celebrate.
