Treat chronic pain – a condition that is estimated to affect as many as 20% of adults in Europe – without drugs it is possible, with speech therapy. This is suggested by a new study published in the journal Jama Psychiatry by researchers at the University of Colorado, describing a psychological therapy of pain reworking. The therapy approach consists of helping the patient to remember that pain – in many cases – no longer originates in the body, but in the brain, and that it no longer corresponds to an actual danger to health.
