Peconic Bay Medical Center Honored for Excellence in Gastrointestinal and Pulmonary Care

Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has been recognized as one of the best healthcare facilities in New York State by the Healthgrades organization. According to a statement released by the hospital, PBMC was ranked second in the state for pulmonary care and third for gastrointestinal care.

The hospital’s commitment to excellence in specialty healthcare services was highlighted by these accolades, with PBMC being ranked fourth in overall gastrointestinal care. CEO Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN, stated, “The rankings reflect Peconic Bay Medical Center’s continued investment in cutting-edge technologies, hiring top talent, and a patient-centered approach to healthcare. The hospital remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of medical advances to provide the highest quality care to the East End community and beyond. We are proud of all our teams who have made this possible.”

PBMC is the only Northwell facility to rank in the top five in the gastrointestinal and pulmonary categories. The hospital’s chief of gastroenterology, Dr. Sara Cerrone, and chief of pulmonology and critical care, Dr. Rajeev Patel, were instrumental in leading their teams to these achievements, the statement added.

This recognition comes on the heels of PBMC receiving five-star ratings for various treatments, including heart attack, heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, stroke, sepsis, respiratory failure, and hip fracture treatment from Healthgrades.

Healthgrades ratings are determined by analyzing millions of Medicare patient claims over three years, focusing on clinical outcomes such as risk-adjusted mortality and complications. PBMC’s commitment to patient outcomes has positioned the hospital as a top performer in New York State, according to Healthgrades.

Looking ahead, PBMC is preparing to open its expanded Emergency Department in 2024, as part of a $92 million investment announced in June 2023. With these advanced services, PBMC aims to maintain its status as the most advanced healthcare facility in the region and continue to provide exceptional care to its community.
