A clear complexion ensures well-being; after all, annoying pimples and blackheads are just a nuisance. When it comes to skin cleansing, there are numerous methods that are supposed to help you achieve a radiant and clear complexion. Peel-off masks are also included and are intended to prevent impure skin by regularly removing excess sebum and dirt from the skin. Find out here how to use a peel-off mask correctly and how you can make your own DIY masks.

How does a peel-off mask work?

Peel-off masks have a gel-like consistency that slowly dries on the skin after application to the face. When the mask is removed, blackheads, loose skin cells, dirt and sebum deposits should stick to it and be removed in this way. With regular use you can prevent skin blemishes such as pimples and blackheads. Peel-off masks are particularly suitable for impure and combination skin. Masks against blackheads with black activated carbon are often also known as black head masks. How you can make a mask with activated carbon yourself, read below.

Peel-off mask: how to use it

Thoroughly cleanse your face: Before you can apply the mask, you should clean your face with a mild cleansing gel or cream. Then dry your face thoroughly again.Apply peel-off mask: Before you apply the mask to your entire face, you can test the tolerance in one area to make sure that your skin can tolerate the mask. The peel-off mask can then be used. Apply it as thinly as possible because this is the only way it can dry evenly. The easiest way to apply is with your fingers, but there are also practical brushes for applying face masks so that your hands stay clean. The thin application also makes it easier to remove later. Avoid the eye and mouth area, hairline and eyebrows so as not to irritate these finer skin areas. Be sure to allow the peel-off mask to dry completely, this can take up to 20 minutes.Carefully remove the mask: Begin peeling the mask from the sides of the face toward the nose. If residue remains on the skin, you can rinse it off with lukewarm water. If you want to have clear skin in the long term, you should repeat the application once or twice a week.Tip for combination skin: You can avoid the areas of the face that would dry out too much from the peel-off mask and apply the mask specifically to impure areas. For combination skin, this is usually the so-called T-zone (forehead, nose, chin). You can treat dry cheeks and eye areas with a moisturizing cream instead.

If you prefer to use a vegan mask without animal gelatin, which contains bones, cartilage and connective tissue from cattle and pigs, you can use vegetable agar agar. These are carbohydrates that are found in the cell walls of blue and red algae. Agar agar is obtained from sun-dried algae, then dried and processed into powder. Most drugstores, health food stores and health food stores have the herbal gelling agent in their range.

Crush the tablets with a mortar and boil water at the same time. Then mix the charcoal powder with the hot water and the gelatine or the vegetable binding agent until there are no more lumps. For the optimal consistency of the mask, you can heat the mixture in the microwave for around 30 seconds at 800 watts until it thickens slightly. The exact duration depends on the individual power of your microwave. After heating, the paste must cool briefly before it can be applied.
