The Italcementi swimming pool issue reaches the Bergamo City Council as the resolution for a real work restyling of the structure, defined as a “Water Pole,” is put out to tender. This resolution, signed by Mayor Giorgio Gori and subsequently approved by the City Council, aims to relaunch the swimming pools and promote the enhancement of the Italcementi Sports Center.
The resolution was presented by Councilor Loredana Poli, who emphasized the importance of addressing the gym theme and assured that the administration is working with sports associations to find a solution. However, Councilor Enrico Facoetti of Lega raised concerns about the resolution, stating that it does not comply with the modal donation of the structure, which was donated to the Municipality with specific obligations.
The debate also brought attention to the cost of the restyling project, estimated at 23 million euros, and the need to find alternative solutions for sports facilities. The agenda signed by Gori list also emphasized the importance of providing spaces and services for Paralympic swimmers and people with disabilities.
Councilor Stefano Rovetta expressed concerns about the agreements made with Chorus and the potential impact on sports associations that use the gym. Despite these objections, the suspension was rejected, and the resolution moved forward.
Mayor Gori defended the decision, citing the urgent need to address the deteriorating condition of the facility, including issues with plumbing and energy efficiency. He also highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving sports facilities in the city, including the renovation of the Ice Palace and the Atalanta stadium.
In response to objections about the economic plan and the haste of the decision, Mayor Gori emphasized the need for immediate action to stop the financial losses from the structure and to fulfill the administration’s commitment to improving sports facilities in the city.
