Hollywood star Ralf Moeller turned 65 in January – and is still in top shape. How does he manage that?
“When I was 27, everyone said that at 65 your biceps would hang down to the back of your knee,” Moeller told “Bild” on the sidelines of “FiBo” (“Fitness and Bodybuilding”). “I feel better today than ever before. Sport increases the quality of life, especially in old age.”
Moeller gives fitness tips for beginners
The 111-pound man emphasizes that the right training is important. He recommends a studio with well-trained trainers. “Beginners should have a training and nutrition plan drawn up – and train all muscle groups two to three times a week,” he emphasizes. And important: “Not all in one day.”
Chest, back and stomach are advisable on one day, shoulders and arms on the other. “If you train three times a week, you should also train your legs once a week – otherwise you will have a huge upper body and spindly legs.”
“The right diet accounts for 70 percent”
The ex-bodybuilder also emphasizes the essential role of nutrition. “Of course you shouldn’t drink beer or eat sweets every day. The right diet accounts for 70 percent.” He occasionally eats fish or eggs, but otherwise Moeller is vegan. “Chickpeas, lentils and beans get me my protein. There are endless plant-based options.”
But the former Mr. Universe isn’t exactly strict about it either. “Of course you can treat yourself to a beer or eat a pizza at the weekend. But if I eat a lot of sugar, it’s clear that it’s not good.”
He wants to motivate beginners: “If you start now, you will feel more comfortable in three months. And in six months you’ll really see something.”
