Exceeded 30 million digital identities Spid in Italy. Midt, the minister of technological innovation and digital transition, Vittorio Colao, and Agid, the Agency for digital Italy, have announced that “citizens are increasingly using” Spid and digital identity “also to take advantage of online services of the Public Administrationwith numbers constantly increasing: over half a billion accesses in 2021, approximately 330 million in the first quarter of 2022.

Midt and Agid explain that to date, to obtain Spid it is necessary to be of age and in possession of a valid Italian identity document, of the health card or tax code, an email address and a mobile number. To activate it, you need to contact one of the digital identity managers authorized byAgency for Digital Italy (AgID). The citizen will thus have a single digital identity available, which can be used by computers, tablets and smartphones.

How the Spid works

Thanks to digital identity, the Public Administration provides simple and secure access to its online services. In addition to the SPID users, there are 28 million citizens in possession of the Electronic Identity Card.
To access public online services at any time, you can choose between the Public Digital Identity System (Spid) and the Electronic Identity Card (There is). With Spid and Cie, for example, you can request a change of residence or a certificate online, book a health service, send your tax return, consult your tax or social security situation, access bonuses, social safety nets or fill out the ‘Isee. All in just a few clicks and without having to remember many different passwords for each service. Access is possible whenever, on a site or a service app, the “Enter with Spid” or alternatively “Enter with Cie” button is present.

How to re-order the Spid

To date, to obtain Spid it is necessary to be of legal age and in possession of a Italian identity document valid, health card or tax code, an email address and a mobile number. To activate it, you must contact one of the digital identity managers authorized by the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID). The citizen will thus have at his disposal a single digital identity, usable from computers, tablets and smartphones. The identity is made up of a strictly personal username and password, with which one can access the online services of Public administration and private adherents in a safe and secure way, thanks also to security checks which, in many cases, provide for the sending of a temporary password (Otp – one time password) to be entered during authentication.
