Revolutionary heart surgery for fibrillation - Ultima Ora

(ANSA) – TURIN, 29 JUN – A revolutionary operation to treat atrial fibrillation was performed at the Mauriziano hospital in Turin, to reduce the risk of stroke. A 56-year-old patient underwent an operation at the Mauritian hospital that combined two techniques for the first time in the world: an ablation (the cancellation of abnormal electrical pathways) of both traditional and external atrial fibrillation , epicardial, of the heart, using a minimally invasive non-surgical approach, associated with an external epicardial, but non-surgical ligation of the left auricle (hollow extension of the atrium).
