At Ces in Las Vegas, Samsung announced a new portable projector dedicated to entertainment. It’s called The Freestyle and packs a projector, smart speakers and an ambient lighting system into one lightweight, portable device. It weighs only 830 grams and easily transforms any room into a movie theater. Unlike traditional compact projectors, The Freestyle rotates up to 180 ° and always allows video playback in high quality: on a table, on the floor, on the walls or on the ceiling, without additional screens. “The Freestyle is a one-of-a-kind projector that focuses on extreme versatility and flexibility to adapt to the changing lifestyle of consumers,” said Simon Sung, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing, Visual Display Business by Samsung. “By overcoming the limitations of space and format, The Freestyle proves to be a fun and versatile device, which adapts to all the viewing modes preferred by the consumer”.

The Freestyle is able to adjust the screen to any surface and angle, ensuring perfect aspect ratio with every use thanks to the automatic keystone correction and leveling. In addition, the autofocus allows you to project crystal clear images on any surface, from any angle and with sizes up to 100 ”. For audio, the Freestyle features a dual passive radiator for clean, deeper bass without distortion and 360 ° diffusion that lets you enjoy cinema-quality music, effects and dialogue from any position.
You can use it with external batteries that support USB-PD charging and at least 50W / 20V output, so you can use it anywhere, even when camping. The Freestyle also breaks down another frontier: it is in fact the first portable projector that connects to a normal E26 socket (that of the light bulbs) without additional wiring, in addition to compatibility with the traditional wall attachment.
When not used for content playback, The Freestyle can generate ambient lighting effects thanks to the Ambient Mode functionality and semi-transparent cap. The Freestyle is also an intelligent speaker, capable of analyzing music and matching visual effects to be projected on the wall, ceiling or anywhere else.
The Freestyle offers interface capabilities with Samsung smart TVs for integrated streaming services and mirroring and casting capabilities compatible with Android and iOS mobile devices. It is the industry’s first portable projector to achieve certification from leading global OTT partners, ensuring users have the best content viewing experience. It is also the first to include wide-ranging voice control, which allows the user to choose their preferred voice assistants for hands-free use of the device.
