At the start of the 44th German Psychotherapist Day (DPT), which will take place on April 12th and 13th in Würzburg, the delegates are making an appeal to Federal Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Lauterbach to finally strengthen the care of mentally ill people. The supply reforms announced by the Federal Minister over a year ago are still not in place.

“Repeated announcements and preliminary working drafts are not laws. Mentally ill people need action – not waiting,” said Dr. Andrea Benecke, President of the BPtK. “The Federal Minister of Health must make good use of the time remaining for legislation and now secure and shape the psychotherapeutic care of the future. The reform projects named in the coalition agreement are overdue and must finally result in law.”

The delegates emphasize that the need for action is also urgent in view of the increase in mental illnesses, the growing demand for psychotherapeutic treatment and the continuing rise in social costs due to late or missing treatment. They are calling on Federal Health Minister Lauterbach to ensure the further development of outpatient and inpatient psychotherapeutic care for mentally ill people.

The central reform projects from the traffic light government’s coalition agreement should finally be implemented:

a needs planning reform that creates additional health insurance seats for the care of children and young people as well as adults, especially in rural and structurally weak regions, an expansion of treatment offers in outpatient complex care, guideline-based psychotherapeutic care and needs-based staffing in inpatient care.
