“Why not make the anti-Covid vaccine mandatory for the most at-risk categories (frail and over 65s) as some vaccines are for children“

Mandatory vaccination is a difficult health policy choice to make. It represents, we can say, the last resort when everything has been done to keep vaccination coverage high. This happened in 2017 when coverage for pediatric vaccines was dropping dangerously. This happened during the Covid emergency with the introduction of the Green Pass. For vaccinations of the elderly and frail, strategies exist to increase coverage. The low adherence, rather than a refusal to vaccination, today depends on a weak and half-hearted offer from the health system. Introducing an obligation, in this context, would not make much sense. First we offer the vaccine actively and with conviction.
